Thirdspace privacy policy Last updated: [date]
Thirdspace connects the book in your hands to its audiobook. This is what that means for your information.
What stays on your phone. Your shelf, reading list, what you've finished, how long you've listened, the pages you've scanned, your recent searches and your settings are stored on your phone and nowhere else. We can't see them. Deleting the app deletes them.
Photos of pages. When you scan a page, the photo is sent to our server and on to OpenAI, whose service reads the words so we can find your place. We don't keep the photo or the words read from it. OpenAI keeps data sent through its API for up to 30 days to watch for abuse, and doesn't use it to train its models. Point the camera at the page, not at people: anything in the frame goes with it.
Searching and listening. To show search results and play a book, your phone asks our server for them. We use what you searched for or opened to answer, and don't keep a record of it tied to you. When a search finds nothing, we count the words searched for — with no code, address or time attached — so we can learn which books people expect to find. Those counts are deleted after 90 days.
"Narrate this" requests. When you ask for a book to be narrated, your phone sends a random code made when you installed the app, so that each install counts once. It isn't connected to your name, your Apple ID or anything else about you. We keep these counts to decide which books to narrate next.
Your IP address is seen by our server, as by any website, and held in memory for at most a day to stop the service being overloaded.
What we don't do. No accounts, no ads, no tracking across other apps or websites, no selling or sharing of your information, and no analytics or crash-reporting services.
Narration is made by an AI voice from the book's text. Nothing you send us is used to make it.
Children. Thirdspace isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices. You can delete everything on your phone by deleting the app. To ask about anything we hold, or to have it deleted, write to [privacy contact].
Changes. If this changes, we'll update the date above and, for anything significant, tell you in the app.
